We lost power for a few hours this week, when the sun was shining. Yes, only we can lose power when there is no storm. I even had to dry and straighten my hair at my desk!<br />
<br />
The storm I'm talking about is that I'll actually be posting some projects soon! You're shocked, I know. I know I've been away, I even lost a follower...boo...hisss.... I'm sorry, I'm a busy chicka! Between working full time, graduate school, internships I barely have time to clean let alone decorate, photograph and post it! <br />
<br />
As of this weekend I will only have a couple hours of internship left and no classes until the end of June, I don't know what I'll do with myself "just" having to work! <br />
<br />
Ok, I do know what I'll be doing and here's the list for you.<br />
<br />
<ol><li>Cleaning the backyard flower beds. It's like the Congo out there. I'm sure Mr. Toad loves it that way, yes, I have a toad that comes by every summer. Maybe "comes by" isn't a good term since our yard is fenced, he's likely more of a prisoner than a guest.</li>
<li>Tending to my garden. I planted a raised bed full of <a href="http://beekman1802.com/how-too/garden">Beekman Boys</a> Heirloom seeds. I have carrots, radishes, turnips, beans, cuckes, spinach and lettuce. My itty bitty carrots and turnips already have little leaves! If you want your own heirloom garden, go <a href="http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/3371861/?catalogId=45&bnrid=3117910&cm_ven=AfCmtyCont&cm_cat=CooksNetwork&cm_pla=GAN&cm_ite=Std">here</a>.</li>
<li>Eating fresh blackberries. We planted a bush last year and it has grown like crazy, here's hoping we have big, fat, juicy berries soon!</li>
<li>Finding someone to eat the turnips I hope will grow. I hate turnips.</li>
<li>"Decorating" our back patio. It's a concrete slab with some wild and crazy hostas growing around it. It really is a pitiful sight. I think a vintage glider, a new rug, some potted plants, some Mason jar lamps will really spruce it up.</li>
<li>Hopefully enjoying the paver patio off the kitchen. We are getting estimates and hope to be able to afford it this summer. </li>
<li>Having a <a href="https://www.jewelkade.com/index.asp">Jewel Kade</a> party. Most likely on a Sunday in June, leave me a comment if you're in the central Ohio area and want to come and I'll send details when I have it scheduled!</li>
<li style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Decorating my mantel. We have a fireplace in our den but it's never had a mantel, until tonight that is! I found this lovely on Craigslist and she's being delivered today. My initial thought was the den but the more I think about it, she might go live in the living room, decisions, decisions. Oh, and I only paid $55 for her, with delivery!! </li>
</ol><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLypeT9cR6XwU9uRPojhtgiRwdjWGh4m8H0SaxG7UwemS8SK09_-elpDe-uBYa1bSjBq5K5meyPlOHARfx2ORE2UlXmhYRdqHi3XVEg5oQMHNua4FAwNgcPNxu_zZCi4hQTlyrLl9ZgR8/s1600/3nb3oc3l15Y45T25P3b5o561bc6e19e3c1115.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLypeT9cR6XwU9uRPojhtgiRwdjWGh4m8H0SaxG7UwemS8SK09_-elpDe-uBYa1bSjBq5K5meyPlOHARfx2ORE2UlXmhYRdqHi3XVEg5oQMHNua4FAwNgcPNxu_zZCi4hQTlyrLl9ZgR8/s1600/3nb3oc3l15Y45T25P3b5o561bc6e19e3c1115.jpg" t8="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"> 9. The final thing I plan on doing this summer is relaxing some. I will still be in class, </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"> but won't be doing an internship until August, so I want to enjoy the little down time I will have.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I'm sure you're all typing your blogger passwords into your computers with bloody stumps since you've been biting your nails in anticipation for my next blog post. Sarcasm? Yes. Bazinga! (10 zillion blog follower points if you can name that tv show.)<br />
<br />
I'm sorry but I'm one busy bee. With working full time and graduate school and internships and husbands and mothers and surgeries and laundry and once in awhile sleep I just haven't had time to do anything. Well anything fun that is. <br />
<br />
Ok, that is a bold face lie. I have be doing things I just haven't been able to photograph them and show you. I did a rather cool bathroom art project (for less than 25 smackaroos) and I've been arranging and rearranging and then getting up at 2am to rearrange again the bookcase I recently got. Again, no pics. And, I was the lucky winner of a great blog give away and those pictures are still sitting in my camera. If digital imagines can collect dust these babies have bunnies on them. I also made a rocking strap cover for my camera. See, big fat liar, pants on fire. I have been doing things.<br />
<br />
I will do all that I can to get some pictures and a real post for you soon. I'm off Friday so hopefully I will prioritize my vacation day appropriately and make sure you get a blog post, with pictures I didn't steal from the net.<br />
<br />
I also plan on making some of these soon. I found a bakery in Columbus that makes them, so I can actually taste one before attempting my hand at them. Ok, that is just fat girl logic to justify eating a cookie. Works though, don't it?<br />
<br />

<br />
Yes, he's about as "simple" as he looks here. But he's the kindest most loving creature ever. If he didn't eat his own poo I'd consider going through therapy dog training with him but if you're in need of therapy the last thing you need is a dog kissing you with poo flavored breath. <br />

Never fear though, I scored an amazing vintage barrister bookcase this weekend from <a href="http://myurbanfarmhouse.com/">Urban Farmhouse</a> so I will show it off soon. <br />
<br />
Instead I thought I'd share a recipe. I love to cook and bake. This will come as no surprise to anyone who has seen my backside. Recently in an effort to raise money for local food pantries we had a chili cook-off at work. <br />
<br />
Have I told you, I hate chili. <br />
<br />
Really, it's like the one food that if I am ever held captive for government secrets don't bother doing water torture, make me eat chili and I'll sing like a bird. (Yes, I realize how many possible fart innuendos there are in that sentence.)<br />
<br />
So to help raise money I decided to make a white chicken chili, heck maybe I'd win the cook-off with my <strike>dark</strike> white horse. I made it the night before the cook-off and told E to help himself. He loved it and I thought what the heck, I'll at least taste it. <br />
<br />
I ate two bowls. I was almost ashamed of myself for always talking so poorly about chili in the past then I realized that this, this glorious creamy concoction was not <span style="font-size: large;">chili</span>...it was white chicken <span style="font-size: xx-small;">chili</span>. I guess I don't like the taste of chili powder or hard, gritty kidney beans but this chili was delicate, smokey and even I can choke down a few spoonfuls of cannelini beans. <br />
<br />
Ironically, my chili was the only one that was entirely gone by the end of lunch. Everyone loved it and begged for the recipe. But, I didn't win. The judges were purists and chose a traditional red chili.<br />
<br />
So while the chicken is in the crock pot at home waiting to become chili I thought I'd share my recipe. I pretty much made this up on the fly after reading pages and pages of white chicken chili recipes online. <br />
<br />
Now, because I made this up there are some variations you can try, I will note those in the recipe.<br />
<br />
If you make it, let me know what you think.<br />
<br />
Beth's Even I Will Eat It White Chicken Chili<br />
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken boobs (or one rotisserie chicken, left over chicken, some form of poultry, you get my drift)<br />
2-3 cans of canellini beans, rinsed (reserve 1/4 c)<br />
1-2 cans of diced green chilies with their juice<br />
1 large can of chicken stock (low fat/low sodium)<br />
a glob of butter (maybe 2-3 T, I don't know, just use a glob)<br />
a small onion<br />
1-2 cloves of garlic, chopped<br />
1/2-1 t cumin<br />
1/2-1 t dried oregano<br />
1/2-1 c heavy cream<br />
a large handful of shredded Monterrey jack cheese<br />
sour cream<br />
fresh cilantro<br />
salt/pepper<br />
<br />
I cooked my chicken breasts in the crock pot in plain water all day or until they shredded easily with a fork. You could also use a store bought rotisserie chicken, left over baked chicken or even grilled chicken would be good in this. (In fact, the grilled might be really good, to give it that smokey flavor.)<br />
<br />
In a large saute pan saute the onion and garlic in some butter/olive oil. I used butter because I wanted the richness since this is a creamy chili (and I'm a fatty like that.) Once the onion is soft (not browned) add the shredded chicken and the chopped green chilies (I used two small cans, you can use more or less) saute until all combined. At this point add your heavy cream then add your spices; cumin, oregano, salt, pepper and let everyone fall in love. Don't boil it, just let it simmer..think hot tub on low. This will make it thick, glorious and creamy. <br />
<br />
STOP<br />
<br />
This above chicken mixture is slap your momma good and would make amazing tacos or enchiladas.<br />
<br />
Ok, back to the chili.<br />
<br />
Once the chicken/chili/cream mixture is hot through and starting to thicken add the rinsed and drained beans (minus the 1/4 c you reserved, relax, I'll explain that in a moment.)<br />
<br />
Now, my saute pan was large and high sided so I had lots of room. If you don't, have a larger pot available and pour the chicken mixture into it. Then add the chicken stock. I added about 3/4 of a large can. This is preference, if you like thick chili, add less, if you like it soupier...add more. Rocket science, I know.<br />
<br />
Take the 1/4 c of beans you reserved and beat the hell out of them, mash them up with a fork until they resemble humus. Add this mixture to your chili. It will naturally thicken the soup and give it some texture. You can also add more cream if you want. (You'll want to, it's cream after all!)<br />
<br />
Let simmer 30 or so minutes, then add a large handful of Monterrey jack cheese. This too will thicken the soup and give it a creaminess. <br />
<br />
Serve with a glob of sour cream and some cilantro (ok and more cheese.)<br />
<br />
The only "complaint" I got was this wasn't spicy. I liked that about it though, it was "warm" and smokey from the cumin, but if you want something spicy you could add some Cheyenne or saute some jalapenos with the onion. Personally, I like the little bit of warmth the chilies give it over something that will give you a ring of fire...if you get what I'm saying. But it's your butt, do what you want!<br />

One is currently holding the most divine confection you will ever have pass your lips. Ruth Hunts, Blue Monday candy bars. If you're not southern or have family who are southern you likely do not know about Ruth Hunt. I grew up on cream candy and Ruth Hunt makes the best. A Blue Monday bar is cream candy drenched in a luscious robe of dark chocolate. It's sinful, really. If you want to experience Ruth Hunt for yourself, and you should, you can order <a href="http://www.ruthhuntcandy.com/defaultt.html">here.</a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, there you go my lovelies, I hope it was worth the wait. I think it was, I love my shelves!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A little financial breakdown for you:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I only had to purchase some primer, I didn't have enough left over from other projects. I use Zinser and I got a quart for $12.94, I know the left over will be used for something.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I did buy new dishes, but obviously if you do this project you could use your current dishes. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I got the seagrass baskets on sale at Kohl's, $11.94 for both, but I had Kohl's cash so I only paid $1.94 for them!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Besides the Goodwill finds I used what I had. So it was rather inexpensive for a huge change!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
Now, for your entertainment and what happens when I'm in the kitchen trying to take pictures. This is what Boston Terrier owners call "bitey face." Trust me it's not as viscious as it looks but it does make taking pictures difficult. <br />
<br />
It all begins with a look....<br />

I promised pictures of the kitchen shelving and I haven't delivered. What you may not realize is that the sun never shines in Newark, Ohio. Ok, it does shine it just only shines when I'm at work or school or internship. When I'm home it's dark, cloudy, grey, or it's midnight. None of those make for good blog pictures. (But as you'll see in a bit, anything would be better than what I currently have to offer.)<br />
<br />
Not to mention I've been tweaking, rearranging and still shopping for things to make the shelves...sing if you will. I didn't realize how tough it would be to have open shelving and OCD. I'm sure normal people with open shelving do not stand and stare, wonder, rearrange, scratch their heads and sigh when putting dishes away. I'm getting better though, I'm only spending about 30 minutes obsessing over it, last week it was around 45 minutes. ;)<br />
<br />
Guess what? The sun is shinning today and it supposed to shine ALL DAY!!!! AND I don't have internship tonight so I my plan is to get those pictures done today and posted tomorrow. (Ok, maybe by the end of the week.)<br />
<br />
Until then, I'm going to show you what inspired me in the first place.<br />
<br />
<br />

I'm pooped! I am currently working full time and doing 16 hours a week of internship in the emergency department of our local hospital. I"m hoping that when I grow up, or in May of 2012, whichever comes first I'll have my MSW. Graduate school has been hard but so worth it! (At least that's what I am telling myself.)<br />
<br />
But right now, I'd like to be here. In our spare room, curled up in the sun with the puppies and Eric. <br />

<br />
This post is to notify you all that I am tootin' my own horn that my silly little kitchen light is front page news over at <a href="http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/">Funky Junk Interiors</a>. Can I just say that I was baaa-lowwwwn away when I saw it today. <br />
<br />
This makes me really reconsider my current undertaking of getting my MSW and going into interior design. Yes, I am just that over inflated that one little mention on an amazing and highly followed blog and I would consider a new and not always lucrative career choice. Let's not even begin to discuss how I by no means have the talent to do interior design. Anyways, head over to <a href="http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/">Funky Junk Interiors</a> and check out the other amazing talent that's being profiled. (Yeah, I just called myself amazing.)Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-91734322907585140642011-02-06T13:23:00.000-08:002011-02-06T13:23:36.686-08:00I'm gonna do it. Sometime. Maybe.I've lusted over open shelving in kitchens <a href="http://everydaylifeofbellom.blogspot.com/2010/10/talk-me-out-of-it.html">before</a>. But today I got a step closer. I finally got around to spending a Kohl's gift card from Christmas and got an amazing deal on these lovely Oneida dishes. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglE3L8gXgdcQlNxeGuK-jt_Jd8EKSxdYfMFsIQzD6qnywiYxJY7GQCzmU0kO5bqU1XDr5D_abJGaYCPjSido_PHOLMAVlJEDaA7Aqo30ekEWm0X4K8FVhH0V3EOCwYh82udolXac9kfng/s1600/436355.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglE3L8gXgdcQlNxeGuK-jt_Jd8EKSxdYfMFsIQzD6qnywiYxJY7GQCzmU0kO5bqU1XDr5D_abJGaYCPjSido_PHOLMAVlJEDaA7Aqo30ekEWm0X4K8FVhH0V3EOCwYh82udolXac9kfng/s400/436355.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">These are the Oneida Souffle dishes. The deal was great, 40 pcs for $59.99 plus my $25 gift card! Granted, I would have really liked to have found enough white vintage dishes to make a full set, but alas, these will do just fine. Not to mention I have a set of lovely vintage china that I use for holidays and such, they just aren't white.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now that I have a full matching set instead of two partial sets. (One with blue sponge painted farm animals on them, yes, you read that right. I really can't believe I told you all that, please, don't shun me for having country decor!) I can now proceed with my open shelving. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My only hurdle is deciding which cabinets to use as shelving. Should I do this side, the stove side? Sorry awful picture, but it's dreary here today and the pictures just were not coming out well and this was all I have in my files. There are two equal sized cabinets on each side of the microwave which speaks loudly to my OCD nature of symmetry. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The draw back for this side of the kitchen is that those cabinets house food and spices/cooking "stuff." If I put my dishes over here I will then have to put the cooking stuff on the other side of the kitchen. I suppose this goes to show how lazy I am, I hate the idea of having to turn around and walk 2 steps to get salt and pepper when I'm cooking. Not to mention if the dishes are on the stove side the grease factor goes up a zillion percent than if the dishes were on the sink side.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-T4v9CFiiugC4H_Dqivl9XuxZwEGI1fbiYpDzpMW3ms6A7tZNh0uChpTr9wcXtn9F7aHqUZqvthwM53nDF7iGhyphenhyphengBdz2cnEy8NYNa4-Kg5j6JvFMVc4dmyzWLWZsCEPyh3IE3FZHEEzk/s1600/049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-T4v9CFiiugC4H_Dqivl9XuxZwEGI1fbiYpDzpMW3ms6A7tZNh0uChpTr9wcXtn9F7aHqUZqvthwM53nDF7iGhyphenhyphengBdz2cnEy8NYNa4-Kg5j6JvFMVc4dmyzWLWZsCEPyh3IE3FZHEEzk/s640/049.JPG" width="426" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Or should I do it on this side, the sink side? These cabinets, each side of the window, currently house the dishes and glasses so it "makes sense" on this side. BUT see that blurry white/green thing on the right? That's another cabinet, it's the "junk food" cabinet and I am not sure if it would look right to have four cabinets sans doors and then one with a door. Because I will tell you now, there is NO WAY that junk food cabinet will ever, ever, ever be obsolete nor will it ever be purdy enough to not have a door.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUqOjKHJcmrFQEGGO2hJbViZGYZTq0qUGx9y0puDNpoIaZEu6Rrp7RJthh0SbSqBuTJ86Yo6IUT3C8C2rUkDx8bbcU2EsCVaxzZdcmZuNrF9v8svIIP6FJMJgyuTGcTWbR3pXoUSP3YRc/s1600/048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUqOjKHJcmrFQEGGO2hJbViZGYZTq0qUGx9y0puDNpoIaZEu6Rrp7RJthh0SbSqBuTJ86Yo6IUT3C8C2rUkDx8bbcU2EsCVaxzZdcmZuNrF9v8svIIP6FJMJgyuTGcTWbR3pXoUSP3YRc/s640/048.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, whatcha' think? Sink side all four doors or sink side, just the two you can see above? Or are you a stove side sort of person? </div>Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-76247130955840811172011-01-14T06:41:00.000-08:002011-01-14T06:41:07.952-08:00Tick tock...glug glugThis clock makes my heart beat fast (that's the glug glug part.) Sorry, stolen pictures from the net do not transfer well to blogs.<br />

My dear sweet husband endulged me and looked at the picture when I showed it to him but his "uh huh, it's nice" was by no means as enthusiastic as I had wanted. I am hoping she will be coming home with me this weekend, she would be puuuuuurrrfect in our living room. I'll let you know (and see) if it does make it home with us!<br />
<br />
Here's the info on the clock, just please don't buy the only ones in the Columbus, Ohio area, or you'll have one sad Bellom on your hands! ;)<br />

Some months are lean and some are fruitful but no matter the month I do try to do the most I can with the least possible. This is evident in our kitchen where I used Goodwill finds and a great Ebay score to make a super cute gallery wall. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHxSRZ4dObHu4BVCNoge1d5KUu6vxduVVMSXpl1a5HFXuwT9JVFN6VSbskgKPSoBt8rJiMSx7rQhC55WaNpxL80FG6itTCpjQh-EhKFa81TKnmDthTeF839w0DSAKs8qydz_EKK1BtR1Q/s1600/IMG_2499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHxSRZ4dObHu4BVCNoge1d5KUu6vxduVVMSXpl1a5HFXuwT9JVFN6VSbskgKPSoBt8rJiMSx7rQhC55WaNpxL80FG6itTCpjQh-EhKFa81TKnmDthTeF839w0DSAKs8qydz_EKK1BtR1Q/s640/IMG_2499.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Here's the break down.<br />
<br />
First off, the square frames are all from Goodwill for $1.00 each. The vintage egg print in this one was $12.00. I will admit, I thought that was pricey, but I love all things bird related and thought this would be perfect in my kitchen so I went for it. Using left over paint (FREE) and left over burlap (FREE) I just taped the print down and used the glass from the frame to keep everything in place. Not bad for $13.00. (Please excuse the reflection, I wasn't about to move the kitchen table to take a picture, I'm not that dedicated of a blogger I suppose.But at least you can see my handmade curtains from Target grain sack dish towels and some seam binding.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrkxgH18zzH23FAaAHD2rjt_exL5bpEtX4Hk9u58q-5tXf7LsD10P7gsAWI1HYcU2yobi48gF2ITL9IXjtjsmNgZY6DqAFydtq3pNWBlTsKELOaiIX7l0o4ylOLBfcWnHf7PT2dbFO2I/s1600/IMG_2510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbrkxgH18zzH23FAaAHD2rjt_exL5bpEtX4Hk9u58q-5tXf7LsD10P7gsAWI1HYcU2yobi48gF2ITL9IXjtjsmNgZY6DqAFydtq3pNWBlTsKELOaiIX7l0o4ylOLBfcWnHf7PT2dbFO2I/s640/IMG_2510.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>Next up, my Mary Poppins spoon. I love, love, love Mary Poppins. You may have picked up on that from my new blog header; Practically IMperfect in Every Way. I scored this cute spoon on Ebay, in fact it was my first ever Ebay purchase! I got her for $10.00 including shipping. Pricey for a little spoon, perhaps, but recently I saw one on Ebay for $50.00. This frame I purchased awhile back and couldn't figure out what to do with it, so I count it as "free" since I didn't go out and purchase it for this purpose, instead I "shopped" the junk closet for it. I just used some super glue and some left over (FREE) scrapbook paper as the background.<br />

I used left over (FREE) chalk board paint and left over (FREE) while paint and here you go!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhACMBqKoAxprvbobzajC9WjSpVGEUZu_Lc5Bb4tOWREuW_Gjp8o3khyphenhyphenYcfYoFhlY7zYNt7k0Fod7j8C3Wl_mHWlYeMabUTKu14cM8VAkKWMrhqb7FMFa2T937Gk3Nn4ELaLjklSBIG1jE/s1600/IMG_2508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhACMBqKoAxprvbobzajC9WjSpVGEUZu_Lc5Bb4tOWREuW_Gjp8o3khyphenhyphenYcfYoFhlY7zYNt7k0Fod7j8C3Wl_mHWlYeMabUTKu14cM8VAkKWMrhqb7FMFa2T937Gk3Nn4ELaLjklSBIG1jE/s640/IMG_2508.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Lastly, this was a $1.00 mirror from Goodwill. Using a key that came with the music used in this project, which was bought for another project (so again, I count this as "FREE") I simply glued the music to the mirror and then glued the key to the music. I didn't intend on distressing this frame but the finish on the wood did not agree with the paint so it bubbled, therefore, distress it!<br />

<br />
The den tree. Most likely her last year. Thanks to a curious cat she was knocked over and her base is less than sturdy. Den Tree 2.0 will likely have a "nature" theme next year. <br />

I am a perfectionist and I am very, very hard on myself. My current self abuse I can blame on blogland. Now, I love more than anything to read everyone's blog. I pour over the pictures, analyzing every detail. I print pictures, keep notebooks, folder upon folder of favorites. What's the problem with this? Seeing the beauty you all create makes me second guess myself and what I really like and don't like. I have to remember that just because it's on a blog and it gets 100 comments doesn't make it pretty and vice versa. <br />
<br />
For example. I am painting the spare room in an effort to make a "mom" <strike>cave</strike> corner. I hate the color. Hate, hate, hate. It's Glidden Barely Jade. The chip shows a lovely blue, green, grey. The walls, are blue. Just plain, boring, baby blue. Atrocious. What makes me hate it even more? Because none of you have used it. I love the color in my laundry room because Layla at The Lettered Cottage used it, so it has to be a great color. Our den color was approved by Young House Love. Our living room colors come from the very amazing Monique Keegan as seen in Country Living and owner of Enjoy Co in Granville. <br />
<br />
The spare room...some crap I picked.<br />
<br />
Why do I do this to myself?<br />
<br />
Are you hard on yourself like this or should I seek help?Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-81060803494735666872010-11-17T11:57:00.000-08:002010-11-17T11:58:48.741-08:00I wish I could...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Last year our itty bitty house had 13 trees. Now, before you get all impressed that count includes small trees here and there, there were only 3 full sized trees. This year I feel the need for change. The large tree in the upstairs living room is our "traditional tree." It has ornaments from our childhood, our first year married ornament, the ornaments we've made/gotten for the dogs etc. The tree in the spare room was new last year, white with white lights and peacock themed colors. The den tree is all pink and sage green ornaments that I've used since I was out on my own 8 years ago. I think that's the tree that's going to be revamped this year.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This year I want to shake things up some. Do something different. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Something that doesn't scream Christmas. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Vintage industrial has a special place in my heart and I thought incorporating it into Christmas could either be great or be an epic FAIL.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's what I had in mind....</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I love this tree. It's flocked, pre-lit (a MUST) and has little pine cones. It's pricey, way too pricey (for me at least, I'm cheap, I only buy trees on clearance.) It's also really hard to steal pictures from Home Depot's site. For more info on this tree go <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/Decor-Holiday-Decorations-Christmas-Trees-Trimmings-Artificial-Christmas-Trees/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xkdZbd67/R-202213648/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053">here</a>. I thought the flocking would be a nice contrast with the metal in the decorations.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXAR7S_EalThv2p-pvJKINJdfXx6IXqJ4gH05WTw-c4DIoxxeqwrzP2XFNpFZnpQ1HWu4WgDbOuJ7BcsD2TxzA1Bre-7l1I4VK9nmunJz0qlR_pHiTV_gLcR9G-Q5Hmn0gqdF4eP1tpX8/s1600/d9f8ec04-3b42-4380-83ef-e8bf2270d11e_300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXAR7S_EalThv2p-pvJKINJdfXx6IXqJ4gH05WTw-c4DIoxxeqwrzP2XFNpFZnpQ1HWu4WgDbOuJ7BcsD2TxzA1Bre-7l1I4VK9nmunJz0qlR_pHiTV_gLcR9G-Q5Hmn0gqdF4eP1tpX8/s400/d9f8ec04-3b42-4380-83ef-e8bf2270d11e_300.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Now for ornaments. Personally I'm a "nester" I like to nestle ornaments into the tree, I really don't like hanging ornaments. This could also be because we have two not so bright cats and two insanely curious dogs, so nesting just makes more sense.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I love letters and spelling out NOEL or JOY in vintage metal letters, too cute.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_uNYZNorChZ7NJXE8lCYDg9k3lMMv9Jgou6kNkPRnUOA7-X6BKnr4iBTUnZ9tFW-4qOz20zRILv1kObBd0MOKis6vGlH2EYerul_maRML17eg_MkoRNZ7JwCGe5M8p0wPWq2WVfv587g/s1600/il_570xN_188028498.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_uNYZNorChZ7NJXE8lCYDg9k3lMMv9Jgou6kNkPRnUOA7-X6BKnr4iBTUnZ9tFW-4qOz20zRILv1kObBd0MOKis6vGlH2EYerul_maRML17eg_MkoRNZ7JwCGe5M8p0wPWq2WVfv587g/s320/il_570xN_188028498.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just loved these little pulleys. They would be adorable on their own or you could use twine and hang a bulb from them. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1fV4rftmcJuaul0Dsf8QsC90D7Ju1iGI7-BmLF1OQL7qll36AlCGdM9EbTmHTMOtr2SQt7cd_ivk7RZ-kzVFygcfgkl1-gqDZXYy0zbJfO4rmkBJOqffwKBBC6fqAvKA6QO7Hiqcki8s/s1600/il_570xN_188173837.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1fV4rftmcJuaul0Dsf8QsC90D7Ju1iGI7-BmLF1OQL7qll36AlCGdM9EbTmHTMOtr2SQt7cd_ivk7RZ-kzVFygcfgkl1-gqDZXYy0zbJfO4rmkBJOqffwKBBC6fqAvKA6QO7Hiqcki8s/s320/il_570xN_188173837.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Again, these would be adorable hung as individual ornaments. They also would be great strung together with red velvet ribbon or lace and used as a cluster in the tree.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6SdeuxSXPgKkmvfmwqnIjxLi7RUTiI8LgUzYxQDfbW0LsxPhqy6nj_YMFZi6kAivQQOtEVjogaizNXpMVLukbTSki-HJZ-g1Dhh0OcldoBCsD0gYJgiLuk7GwEge_b6Y4imdSFaf4l4w/s1600/il_570xN_188181946.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6SdeuxSXPgKkmvfmwqnIjxLi7RUTiI8LgUzYxQDfbW0LsxPhqy6nj_YMFZi6kAivQQOtEVjogaizNXpMVLukbTSki-HJZ-g1Dhh0OcldoBCsD0gYJgiLuk7GwEge_b6Y4imdSFaf4l4w/s320/il_570xN_188181946.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These spindles would be cute nestled in the tree, on the mantle, or wind colorful ribbon or thread around them and pile them in a wire basket for under the tree or by the fireplace.</div><br />

I've been dreaming of it for months. Pros and Cons lists. Everyone is doing it. <br />
<br />
What is keeping me up at night? <br />
<br />
I want to remove our upper kitchen cabinets on one wall and put in shelves. <br />
<br />
You're bummed aren't you? You thought it was some amazing earth shaking idea, sorry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HY2_jdk2yOGEstTpN1XtxLhwCqNmFbN6drQkL1XcGIlpeqEsJIwOCY2ReUHGMsJlCVgVPHauDx3JAy0eSwx-v78FWbInESPQ-C_7O2eSRJw01NhUj19q1F2TPX667hhnOZTJtwdFcVg/s1600/048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HY2_jdk2yOGEstTpN1XtxLhwCqNmFbN6drQkL1XcGIlpeqEsJIwOCY2ReUHGMsJlCVgVPHauDx3JAy0eSwx-v78FWbInESPQ-C_7O2eSRJw01NhUj19q1F2TPX667hhnOZTJtwdFcVg/s640/048.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>That's the only pic of that wall I have right now and as you can see there aren't that many cabinets anyways so I wouldn't be losing on storage, I think I'd be gaining.<br />
<br />
The blurry "thing" to the right, that's a cabinet as well, and it being gone would REALLY open up the kitchen to the eating nook.<br />
<br />
The thing that is keeping me from pulling the trigger is having to pay to have it all done. I know NOTHING about electrical or demo and honestly, I am just not brave enough to just jump in. Now, if the cabinets were attached to the wall without a soffit I would try, but I have a feeling once that soffit is attacked dry wall will be necessary.<br />
<br />
Another con is that the walls in the kitchen are paneling and I worry it would be a huge cost to tie the existing paneling in with new.<br />
<br />
Can you see where I'm going here...cheap, cheap, poor, both of us in school, I worry I'd open a big ol' expensive can of worms.<br />
<br />
The other big hurdle is our home was build in the 1950's and I recently saw on the news that demo in homes built prior to 1970 is now specialized and both contractor and home owner can be fined if demo isn't done in a new, safer manner. I'm assuming this is due to lead. SO that just adds another $$$ to the whole thing.<br />
<br />
I just don't know what to do. Once I get an idea I can't stop myself. Estimates are free, might be worth a few phone calls. <br />
<br />
If anyone knows of a good contractor or handy man in the Columbus Ohio area, email me at <a href="mailto:kat_eyez23@yahoo.com">kat_eyez23@yahoo.com</a>. <br />

Here's an inspiration picture for you from <a href="http://purestylehome.blogspot.com/">Pure Style Home</a>. Serious, Laura has more creativity in one of her nose hairs than I do in my entire fluffy body!<br />

Every year I add a little more and hope to have enough "stuff" to decorate the entire house and not just the living room. <br />
<br />
As you'll see I lean towards the odd and unusual and not just pumpkins and ghosts. This year I made a fortune teller's booth where Madame Bellom <strike>steals</strike> tells your fortune. I hope you enjoy!<br />
<br />
Here's Madame Bellom's chair, her raven watching her from the top of the light, her black cat hovering above and her chalice and voodoo doll. <br />

Is anything really ever "done" though?</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I'm pretty proud of this room as it's been a LONG time coming. We worked hard to get the new front loaders and I worked my hump, my lovely lady lumps to the bone to get the room primed and painted and painted and painted before the W&D were delivered. As if it wasn't enough work to prime and paint knotty pine I was struck down by a virus that made painting rather difficult. Thankfully I never confused the paint rag for my snot rag. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>I want to apologize for the before pictures, I was too lazy to clean up, but I'm hoping the clutter makes for a better "after" shot. <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">While I LOVE Uppercase Living it was a PITA to take it down and a rather pitiful excuse for decorating.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIZmBMp6ua9aHFt9Mz17aoZaEKP1TR2NF8AASLVdmF8LEkP47k6VmtFwvgQ51nO1ZwJTHi10bR409ce-NohbmLEzr4nrBrarrLi_zs9hNUOLpCA6eitWvfD7x2P_42MbI_0Ob8wB4XcSM/s1600/IMG_2416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIZmBMp6ua9aHFt9Mz17aoZaEKP1TR2NF8AASLVdmF8LEkP47k6VmtFwvgQ51nO1ZwJTHi10bR409ce-NohbmLEzr4nrBrarrLi_zs9hNUOLpCA6eitWvfD7x2P_42MbI_0Ob8wB4XcSM/s640/IMG_2416.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Thankfully this room gets great afternoon light. Our house is a 1950's up and down split so the ground is level with the window ledge. As of now I don't have a curtain up and I'm not sure I will put one up. I so love the light that comes through and since we have a privacy fence you can't see in this window (not sure it matters if you could considering it's a laundry room. ) <br />

They worked great still which is surprising since they were both hand me downs from two different family members and both were at least 10 years old. Don't you love the buckets of dog toys?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheJMYhIcm3svtg4_1hA_3MtWXxX_pAoh1Of1_3v6-lhVYQy9qMDXwJLsI4bqkq1oaA6UqMUFaFYZhGGkFInxzMfALnhfBsTzEJKi9wDfNcAoyDR0XdTGxJmPDYlvqpSXXi9JOfFIoTdMM/s1600/IMG_2420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheJMYhIcm3svtg4_1hA_3MtWXxX_pAoh1Of1_3v6-lhVYQy9qMDXwJLsI4bqkq1oaA6UqMUFaFYZhGGkFInxzMfALnhfBsTzEJKi9wDfNcAoyDR0XdTGxJmPDYlvqpSXXi9JOfFIoTdMM/s640/IMG_2420.JPG" width="640" /></a></div> And here she is, the greatest part of the before's. The hated Booby light. I hate these lights and they are in EVERY room of our house. I think they look like huge boobs staring down at you. Here you can also see the other full bath which will get a coat of the same paints I used in the laundry room.<br />

I wanted to add, I just emailed the gentleman I bought the chandy from to show him the pictures of it's new home. To me, that's perfectly normal. I mean, I'd want to know she got a good home and is being taken care of, wouldn't you?<br />
<br />
Yes, I'm just that odd.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-86370738156360123112010-10-04T12:03:00.000-07:002010-10-04T12:03:42.301-07:00I took an electrician's virginity.It's true. I stole his innocence and I liked it. I paid him for it too.<br />
<br />
What the hell am I talking about? I had the chandelier installed in the laundry room last week and was informed by the electrician (with 25 years experience) that this was the first chandelier he's installed in a laundry room. I was SHOCKED. Obviously his customers don't read blogs. <br />
<br />
I was feeling pretty cocky. I was the first person in Nerk, Ahia to have a chandelier in their laundry room, na-na-na-boo-boo. I was setting the home decor curve, I was the Alpha, the bar had been set. <br />
<br />
Then, he said it. It broke my heart, it crushed my spirit. It pissed me off.<br />
<br />
"Well ma'am, I just do what the customer asks for. I don't have to like it or understand it as long as I'm paid for it."<br />
<br />
EXCUSE ME? What about this doesn't make sense and are you saying you don't like the idea of a dandy little vintage chandy in a laundry room? Do you realize the deal I got on this baby? How I covered her with a blanket to keep her warm and safe and to hide her from admirers? Do you not see my vision? Doesn't it all make sense? <br />
All I could say was "I saw it online." I might as well said "I carried a watermelon." He didn't get it. At all.<br />
<br />
It's ok though. <br />
I get it. <br />
YOU get it. <br />
Bloggers get me. <br />
<br />
That's what matters.Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-20137109728374226162010-09-30T16:07:00.000-07:002010-09-30T16:07:14.702-07:00It's beginning to look a lot like....Haloween at Chateau Bellom<br />

<br />
Wow, that makes it sound so much more amazing that it really is.<br />
<br />
Here are the W's for you...<br />
<br />
<strong>What is it?</strong> <br />
Well a few weeks ago I was talking to Lisa from Urban Farmhouse and Polly from Sassafras Stuff and we discussed how it would be great to have some sort of vintage Craigslist for those of us in the central Ohio area. I had been looking for a little vintage ladder for my living room and just happened to comment about it on Lisa's blog. Polly saw it and said "hey toots, I got you a ladder" (Ok, she didn't say toots) but anyways, the idea was born (and I got my ladder.)<br />
<br />
<strong>So what's this thingy do?</strong><br />
<br />
The list would be to help us find things we were looking for, sell/trade things we wanted to get rid of.<br />
<br />
In trying to find ways to build such a site where members could post without passwords to blogs, etc I came up with starting a yahoo group. This way once you're a member you may post your wants, get-rid-of's, or "hey, if you see a....would you let me know's."<br />
<br />
I am not a good name-maker-upper so, The Vintage Exchange is as good as it gets. <br />
<br />
<strong>Who can join?</strong><br />
Anyone really, but primarily for those of us in the Central Ohio/Columbus area. Feel free to join even if you're not from Ohio, but realize unless you'll have to have a seller willing to ship and you be willing to pay shipping if you find something you just can't live without!<br />
<br />
<strong>Where do I go to join?</strong><br />
<a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vintageexchange/">http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vintageexchange/</a><br />
<br />
I hope to see lots of posts and lots of goodies finding new homes!<br />

<br />
I forgot how much I hate priming, then painting. I hate it so much I started priming, got 1/2 way through and haven't picked up a paint brush since. <br />
<br />
I have to get my rear in gear though as tonight I'm going to buy our new front load washer and dryer.<br />
<br />
Be still my heart. I have wanted these forever. Is it inappropriate to lay awake at night thinking about an appliance?<br />
<br />
Anyways.<br />
<br />
I scored a rockin' deal on the perfect little chandelier this weekend for the laundry room but I'm at a crossroads on what color to paint it.<br />
<br />
My lazy butt hasn't taken before pictures of the chandy yet, so here are some pics of ones somewhat like it from Ebay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyMgM-sUxaBGpl_q6lacGVsxvJKDWyH95tqZ64wAzJPDQr6WOAgMOqHrkJKTXvuUJIm7Tnum7RDFJ2K6t9uK4NWl8wK9tIg1JDO7-g6wcdF050aGGnU9MIlET5YdLR_mNOWBPDDcuRadE/s1600/!BzM3fi!CWk~%24(KGrHqEOKnIEw8oQtmz5BMV!4krBtw~~_35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyMgM-sUxaBGpl_q6lacGVsxvJKDWyH95tqZ64wAzJPDQr6WOAgMOqHrkJKTXvuUJIm7Tnum7RDFJ2K6t9uK4NWl8wK9tIg1JDO7-g6wcdF050aGGnU9MIlET5YdLR_mNOWBPDDcuRadE/s640/!BzM3fi!CWk~%24(KGrHqEOKnIEw8oQtmz5BMV!4krBtw~~_35.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div>Mine is a three arm and it's currently just silver/rust colored. <br />
<br />
My quandary (ain't that a great word?) is what color to paint it. Let me give you a run down of how the laundry room is set up. The top half of the wall is paneling and will be painted in Glidden's Muslin White while the bottom of the wall is dry wall and will be painted Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams.<br />
<br />
Muslin White on the left, Sea Salt on the right. Disclaimer, these colors aren't really "real life" to me, the Muslin White is much lighter, just barely an off white. The Sea Salt is a moody, green-blue, this just looks brown. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6vALokIv7FWBl3qcQzDahFzvKQg1fVjZb8jShZlYU7Be3QNzB_Xx1tKIPs4J1xcZiMe1C-38WYYQLWN2AHCR82XQmgrdM0llyU064sKf5UNOCsbgxVqP1vq5kXZZbWbQW2ndPJu5eGkU/s1600/white+2.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="546" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6vALokIv7FWBl3qcQzDahFzvKQg1fVjZb8jShZlYU7Be3QNzB_Xx1tKIPs4J1xcZiMe1C-38WYYQLWN2AHCR82XQmgrdM0llyU064sKf5UNOCsbgxVqP1vq5kXZZbWbQW2ndPJu5eGkU/s640/white+2.bmp" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left">The bottom colors, are what Sherwin Williams has as complimentary colors for the Sea Salt. I was thinking of going with one of those as the chandelier color. Right now, I'm not loving any of those suggestions and I'm leaning towards turquoise. Why? I love it and I think it would play nicely with the Sea Salt (the real color that is.) Not to mention it's a great laundry room color and would tie in the den color scheme since the laundry room is off the den.</div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left">Here's a picture from <a href="http://www.theletteredcottage.net/">The Lettered Cottage</a>. Layla (whom I adore) has used Sea Salt quite a bit in her home, here it looks like a clean but moody blue. Nothing at all like the above sample is it?</div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfd1RIMiknVdbZY8ppx3UrRm-DjdIPkuKXiPzUgRURDMy8QXJwpn_ahTn9DwXCfbPL08GOBCmTagltgcbIJv-WngSQiXJPgUZLL75iiCRanRUgocSQn9hcOoEr1dFLIKQNaU66gXZhXug/s1600/IMG_7531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfd1RIMiknVdbZY8ppx3UrRm-DjdIPkuKXiPzUgRURDMy8QXJwpn_ahTn9DwXCfbPL08GOBCmTagltgcbIJv-WngSQiXJPgUZLL75iiCRanRUgocSQn9hcOoEr1dFLIKQNaU66gXZhXug/s640/IMG_7531.jpg" width="428" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My initial idea for the chandy was white, but with a true white ceiling and the barely off white of the Muslin White I worried it would look weird and I want a punch of color. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, what do you all think? Turquoise, white, yellow? I did think a bright shiny yellow would be fun as well, but there's NO other yellow in that area of the house, I worry it would stick out in a bad way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What about silver? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ohhhh, a dark moody grey?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Maybe like this.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JI4cKkSXuqFLEQNo-BKxXzvVfjeD9K578g-1xLF2BoqDb1rVGLbKBwq4TE-7SDkvyChVXC7fgHcbclL9mKteikf_4Z3XH6E6ziyQ5EFdeU_WHJENWNOf6nfewZMZCnWGYfisJTxRQDk/s1600/SW6256.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JI4cKkSXuqFLEQNo-BKxXzvVfjeD9K578g-1xLF2BoqDb1rVGLbKBwq4TE-7SDkvyChVXC7fgHcbclL9mKteikf_4Z3XH6E6ziyQ5EFdeU_WHJENWNOf6nfewZMZCnWGYfisJTxRQDk/s320/SW6256.gif" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ugh, I have no idea. I need your input!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div align="left"></div>Beth Rhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14234457219350080632noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1224939433394568102.post-81150496047230210892010-09-16T07:07:00.000-07:002010-09-16T07:08:07.502-07:00Idea for Creation thanks to Polly!It's been awhile since I have done an Idea for Creation post so I thought I would share one with you to bide some time until I have something else worth posting. Sorry, it just ain't me to troll the net for pictures of great houses and use them as a blog entry just to post for the sake of posting. Now if that is your game, play on playette.<br />
<br />
In the past I've used items from Etsy as my fuel for these posts but this time I thought I would profile a fellow blogger, Polly from <a href="http://sassafrasstuff.blogspot.com/">Sassafras Stuff</a>. Have you met Polly? If so you'll know she's a gem, so sweet and bubbly, and fresh she's a little dose of human 7UP! She's one of those women who makes an adorable black shirt with rosettes and denim capri's look posh and adorable. <br />
<br />
Recently Polly posted her updated-for-fall booth from The Olde Shoe Factory in Lancaster, Ohio. This is one of my favorite pictures from that post.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkJjiAkxs0nyltNqGcP_zTu4HwmcwKtKODcCGHLkPS6wykL2U0OA1a8DYb29MzOFnyTZuFQcNI72GZDNWabGyFXVgNBxmOSOSJjJ_bJNNOAOKJs3QG8tubfMPZakNwXy4pdbW8inytRlk/s1600/booth+fall+2010+025+edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkJjiAkxs0nyltNqGcP_zTu4HwmcwKtKODcCGHLkPS6wykL2U0OA1a8DYb29MzOFnyTZuFQcNI72GZDNWabGyFXVgNBxmOSOSJjJ_bJNNOAOKJs3QG8tubfMPZakNwXy4pdbW8inytRlk/s640/booth+fall+2010+025+edited.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>I just love the umbrella's and the cards. Whimsical and lighthearted yet artsy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
This photo is where the Idea for Creation comes into play.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQAECHZTm6F-azw73zzFibnjhhOzyPiCgHXNSzZjr_VVet-ONrxcLhfmPFWzAoKBfLGRtt5ASxryf51gA1xFul-UdjTZL-x7ZpiFsptvns6VaijoxcjyAhtRqyC7b5M-luQbrbbWG3qQQ/s1600/booth+fall+2010+006+edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" qx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQAECHZTm6F-azw73zzFibnjhhOzyPiCgHXNSzZjr_VVet-ONrxcLhfmPFWzAoKBfLGRtt5ASxryf51gA1xFul-UdjTZL-x7ZpiFsptvns6VaijoxcjyAhtRqyC7b5M-luQbrbbWG3qQQ/s640/booth+fall+2010+006+edited.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">While there are lots of things in the picture you could take and run with I'm going to address that </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">D-I-V-I-N-E dove grey vintage laundry basket. Just imagine all the things you could do with that baby. Speaking of babies, wouldn't it be cute in a nursery as toy storage? Because trust me, if we ever procreate there will never be a Dora or Bob the Builder theme in our home, sorry kiddo, go cry to your friends that you mean evil momma won't let you have a corny themed room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I digress.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's some other options, let's see if I can come up with 10 of them:</div><ol><li>In the den as a catch-all for blankets and pillows.</li>
<li>In the living room as a catch for the decorative pillows on the couch that always get displaced when company comes.</li>
<li>Or in the bedroom to store your decorative pillows instead of having to put them in a closet. (Or on the floor, don't lie, you've done it.)</li>
<li>For what it was meant to be, a laundry basket. Seriously, how posh would your dirty under-roos look in this baby? And it's so much better looking than the plastic ones that break on the edges and then pinches your belly fat when you're carrying it. What? That doesn't happen to you? Liar.</li>
<li>In the guest room to hold towels, extra blankets and pillows.</li>
<li>If you have a ranch home, or open concept it would be a great means for your kids to actually help clean up, to transport toys from bedroom to living room. </li>
<li>Or maybe if the kids knew they could wheel their clean clothes from laundry room to bedroom maybe those little booger eaters would actually put them away!</li>
<li>Since the basket has some pretty sturdy wheels on it, I was thinking you could use it as a transportation device. Say you're having a bbq, you could use it to haul your plates, chips, cups, etc to the backyard if you have a ways to walk or if you're like me and lazy and don't want to make 37 trips. </li>
<li>Or during said bbq, put a watertight plastic tub in it, fill it with ice and use it as a cooler. </li>
<li>Let's say you have a garden or orchard, line this baby with plastic bag or tub and you have a bounty basket on wheels!</li>
</ol>There, I did it. 10 ideas. I'm sure if I had a cup of coffee and more time I could think of some more but those 10 should be enough motivation for you to rush out and buy this baby......but wait....you can't....I already bought it! Yep, I'm a tease like that. This baby is <strong>MINE</strong>! <br />
<br />
Sticking with my new theme of naming my favorite pieces, I think I will call her Poppin. As in Mary Poppins, since she wore a glorious grey dress and helped clean up after people. Yes, I am just that cheesy!<br />
<br />
Right now Poppin is doing what she was made to do, holding dirty sheets. She has saved me from swearing and tripping already. When I change the bed I just wad up the dirty sheets and usually have a straggler that I end up tripping over, cussing and cursing Eric for not doing this chore for me. This time, I just wheeled Poppin into the bedroom threw everything in her and wheeled her back down the hall to the bathroom. Easy peasy, laundry basket squeezy!<br />
<br />
My plan for Poppin is to use her in the laundry room once it's repainted (which I started last night, that post will hopefully be coming soon.) I am planning on replacing our washer and dryer with front loaders and thought having a raised basket would be helpful to transition laundry from one to the other, very a la laundromat! Classy, huh? Actually with Poppin, it is sort of classy.<br />
<br />
Don't worry, Polly has tons of other great items like this glorious owl cookie jar.<br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">This handsome ladder came home with me as well. I have to admit that I often buy stuff because it's cute or a good deal or a favorite color and then think "crap, what am I going to do with this now?" That's how you get to be on Hoarders. I'm trying really hard to change that behavior and when I see something that I like I try to think of three ways I could use it. Then I think of what I have and try to think of ways to use what I have instead of adding something new. Yeah, that last part usually doesn't happen, but I am trying!<br />
<br />
So, stay tuned to see what I do with that ladder which I think I will name; Beekman. I'll explain why later.<br />
